The Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity is continually building new homes for deserving families in the community. In looking to streamline the process, they joined other Habitat for Humanity chapters across North America in adopting the Build with Strength program. Hosted by the National Ready Mix Concrete Association (NRMCA), this program educates the construction industry on the design and installation benefits of building with Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) and concrete compared to wood framing.
Kris McKelvey, Director of Construction at the Hartford Habitat for Humanity, explained, “We want all of our new construction homes to be zero energy ready homes. One of the best ways to reach that is using ICF blocks.”
The 132 Cleveland Avenue property is the first single-family home that Hartford Habitat built with Insulated Concrete Forms. It utilized ICFs donated by Nudura, as well as other compatible building material products from Euclid Chemical and Tremco, including fiber-reinforced concrete, below-grade waterproofing, air barriers and sealants.
