MAC Federal Credit Union - Alaska

2023 ICF Builder Awards Light Commercial 2nd Runner-Up & People’s Choice Winner

For two of its Alaska branches, MAC Federal Credit Union leveraged Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) to construct a “home away from home” reminiscent of a rustic lodge with warm wood and stone accents.

Sustainability was a top priority while designing these commercial structures, so ICFs were a perfect fit. Large, energy-efficient windows on the south and north sides optimize natural daylight for passive solar heating and ambient lighting year-round. The thermal mass of concrete and dual-sided insulation of ICF assemblies minimize heat loss for more consistent indoor temperatures, greater energy efficiency and reduced operational costs.

During its first winter, the Credit Union endured severe wind gusts exceeding 100 mph, demonstrating the superior protection of Nudura ICFs. Additionally, the interior elevator shaft and bank vaults used ICFs to ensure safe, quiet and fire-resistant operation.

The MAC Federal Credit Union buildings showcase how small businesses can build with Insulated Concrete Forms to protect their investments, staff and customers.
