Nestled in Bromont, Quebec, Canada, the Centre National de Cyclisme de Bromont (CNCB) sports facility prioritized durability and energy efficiency with its construction using Nudura Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs). The CNCB's innovative design and sustainable features make it a blueprint for future ICF projects in the sports industry.
The CNCB's sleek, curvilinear design reflects the form and function of the cycling arena it houses, called a velodrome. The building’s two multi-radius walls and varying heights posed significant design challenges, but Nudura ICFs provided the ideal solution to create the curved concrete walls. They offered precise layout plans and easily accommodated the elliptical shape of the building. ICFs enabled exterior construction to progress through the harsh Quebec winter, avoiding weather delays and staying within budget. The thermal mass of ICF walls reduces energy consumption, making the building both environmentally friendly and cost-effective. They also ensure stable interior temperatures, which was critical for maintaining the integrity of the wooden velodrome track that was originally used in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
The CNCB, recognized by the International Olympic Committee, exemplifies the benefits of ICF construction, offering a durable, energy-efficient solution with a modern aesthetic.
